What is Accutane®?
 
Accutane® (also known as isotretinoin) is prescribed by dermatologists as a last resort for people with severe, disfiguring acne. Accutane® is a form of vitamin A. It reduces the amount of oil released by oil glands in your skin, and helps your skin renew itself more quickly. Accutane® is manufactured by Roche Pharmaceuticals. Accutane® is alos marketd under the names Roaccutane®, Amnesteem®, Clarvis®, and Soret®.

Its known side effects include increased sensitivity to sunlight and birth defects. Accutane® has been linked to Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Inflamatory Bowel Disease.

On June 26, 2009 Roche Holding AG, the world's biggest maker of cancer drugs, is pulling its Accutane® acne medicine from the U.S. market after juries awarded at least $33 million in damages to users who blamed the drug for bowel disease.
